What Gold Coast walls go through
Most Gold Coast homes are lined with gyprock, and the damage we see follows the way people live here. New homes in Coomera, Upper Coomera and Pimpama settle in their first few years, so sheet joins crack and screws pop through the paint. Rentals and holiday units in Surfers Paradise, Southport and Burleigh Heads collect door handle holes and furniture knocks between guests and tenants. And canal and resort homes in Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove often just want every wall flawless before a repaint or a sale.
The coastal climate plays a part too. Humid air slows the drying of each coat of compound, so we don't rush a repair that needs another day to cure properly. Summer storms push water in around windows, sliding doors and roofs, and plasterboard that has been wet goes soft and stains. We'll repair it once the source is fixed, but a roofer or plumber needs to stop the leak first, or the new patch will fail the same way.
We're based in Hope Island, so the northern Gold Coast is close and Southport, Surfers Paradise, Robina and Burleigh Heads are a regular drive. Each repair is done the same way: cut back, backed, sheeted where needed, taped, then set in thin coats and feathered out wide so it sits flat even in strong Gold Coast light. We can leave the wall ready for paint, or patch and paint it ourselves to match.
What we do
Plaster repairs we do on the Gold Coast
New-build settling cracks
Hairline cracks at sheet joins, above doors and in corners are common in homes a few years old around Coomera, Helensvale and Pimpama. We rake them out, tape them and re-set them, rather than filling over the top where they'd just reopen.
Screw pops
As new framing dries and settles, screw heads push up through the paint, often in neat lines along a wall or ceiling. We re-fix the sheet firmly to the frame, then set over the old fixings so they stop showing through the paint.
Rental and holiday unit damage
Door handle holes, scuffed corners and wall plug holes in units and rentals around Surfers Paradise, Southport and Burleigh Heads. We patch them flat and can paint to match, ready for the next guest, tenant or inspection.
Storm and leak damage
Gyprock that's swollen, stained or soft after water got in during a storm. Once a roofer or plumber has fixed the leak, we cut out the damaged board, fit a new sheet section and set it to match the wall around it.
Prep before a repaint or sale
Before you repaint or list the house, we go room by room and fix the small things: dents, old picture hooks, cracked corners and patchy past repairs, so the paint goes onto flat, clean walls and looks right.
TV bracket and shelf holes
Moving the TV or taking down shelves leaves a cluster of big holes and torn plasterboard. We cut back the damaged area, fit a backing piece, sheet it and set it smooth, so the wall is ready for whatever goes there next.
Local conditions
Why Gold Coast walls crack and dent
Young homes still settling
A lot of the northern Gold Coast is new estates. In the first few years, timber framing dries out and the house settles slightly, which shows up as fine cracks and popped screws. It's usually normal and repairable, but cracks that keep widening are worth an engineer's look.
Humidity and slow drying
Plaster compound dries by losing moisture, and on a muggy Gold Coast day that happens slowly. Rushing the next coat leads to shrinkage and hairline cracks later on. We let each coat dry properly, which is why some repairs need a second visit to finish.
Homes that are used hard
Holiday lets and rentals near the beach see a lot of comings and goings: suitcases, furniture moves and doors flung open. Wall damage adds up quickly. Fitting door stops and fixing small damage early keeps the walls in good shape between bookings.

FAQ
Plaster repair questions
How soon can I paint after a plaster repair?
Once the final coat is dry and sanded, the patch needs a sealer or primer before the top coat, or it can show through as a dull spot. In humid Gold Coast weather the compound takes longer to dry, so we'll tell you when it's ready. If we're doing the painting ourselves, we take care of the sealer too.
Can you repair walls in a holiday rental between bookings?
We can work around your bookings where our schedule allows. Send photos of the damage and the dates the property is empty, and we'll tell you whether we can fit the repair in, and whether it needs one visit or two so each coat can dry before the next.
My wall went soft after a storm. What should I do first?
Find and fix the leak first. Depending on where the water came in, that might mean a roofer, a plumber or someone to reseal a window or door. Let the wall dry out, then send us photos. Plasterboard that has stayed wet usually needs cutting out and replacing rather than patching, and we'll tell you how much needs to go.
Which Gold Coast suburbs do you do plaster repairs in?
Our base is Hope Island, so Sanctuary Cove, Coomera, Helensvale, Paradise Point and Runaway Bay are all close. Southport and Surfers Paradise are a short trip, and we regularly head down to Robina and Burleigh Heads. A few repairs across the house can usually be done in the same visit, so send them all through together.
