Living on the Broadwater

Paradise Point sits at the northern end of the Broadwater, with foreshore parks along the water, canal streets running back from the esplanade and Sovereign Islands just across the bridge. The housing is a real mix. Older homes stand alongside large modern rebuilds and low-rise units, so on one street you might need decades-old timberwork brought back into line, and on the next, care around expensive modern finishes.

Being this close to the water comes at a cost. Salt air pits door handles and locks, stiffens hinges and works into the timber of front doors and decks that face the breeze. Doors exposed to wind-driven rain off the Broadwater swell and weather faster than doors tucked under a verandah or eave. It usually shows first on the side of the house that faces the water.

We're a short drive from Paradise Point at our base in Hope Island. We repair and replace weathered doors, swap corroded hardware, restore decks and timber steps, and patch and paint after our repairs so the job looks finished. Isaac is a QBCC licensed carpenter with more than 26 years' experience, and new installations come with our 3-month workmanship warranty.

What we see here

What Paradise Point homes need

  • Pitted locks and handles

Handles, deadbolts and hinges near the water corrode faster than the same hardware inland. Locks get stiff and keys start to stick. We replace tired hardware with stainless or marine-grade options where they suit, and adjust the door so the new lock works without force.

  • Doors that face the water

Front and side doors exposed to the Broadwater breeze cop wind-driven rain and full sun. Finishes break down and the bottom of the door can go soft. We repair or replace the damaged timber, seal every face and edge, and fit a proper bottom seal.

  • Old homes next to new

On streets where older homes sit beside new rebuilds, we work on both. That means rehanging old doors in frames that have moved and patching decades-old plaster, as well as servicing the big glass sliders and wide pivot doors in newer homes.

  • Canal-side steps and decks

Timber steps and decks down to the canal stay damp, grow mould and get slippery. We replace soft treads and boards, firm up loose handrails and refix with stainless screws, so the path down to the water is safe to use again.

FAQ

Questions from Paradise Point

Why do the locks on my Paradise Point home keep seizing?

Salt air from the Broadwater corrodes the metal inside locks and on hinges, especially on doors that face the water. Lighter, cheaper hardware usually goes first. We can replace it with stainless or marine-grade hardware, which lasts longer near the coast, and line the door up so the lock isn't under strain.

Do you also work in Sovereign Islands?

Yes. Sovereign Islands is just across the bridge from Paradise Point, and we work on homes there too. Waterfront homes there face the same salt and weather, so the same advice applies to doors, hardware and decks. Let us know about any gate or entry arrangements when you book.

Should I repaint my front door after it's repaired?

Usually, yes. Any timber we replace or trim needs sealing, and a fresh coat on a door facing the water protects it from sun and salt. We paint as part of the repair, so you're not left with bare patches. Repainting the whole house is a job for a painter, and we'll say so.
