New walls for the way you live now
A lot of Gold Coast plasterboard work starts with a home that no longer fits the family. In the newer estates around Coomera, Upper Coomera, Pimpama and Helensvale, open-plan layouts are great until someone needs a quiet room to work from home. A timber stud wall with sound batts and gyprock on both sides turns the end of a big living area, or part of a rumpus room, into a study or an extra bedroom without building on.
In older homes the job is usually re-sheeting. The 1980s and 1990s brick houses of Robina and Helensvale often get walls stripped back during a kitchen or bathroom renovation, and the new gyprock needs to meet old walls and ceilings neatly. After a summer storm, rooms where water came in through a window or roof may need whole walls replaced once the leak is fixed. And in older beach houses around Burleigh Heads, any wall that might be fibro gets tested for asbestos before anyone cuts it.
The coastal climate decides some of the details. Laundries, garages and rooms that stay humid get moisture-resistant board. Each coat of setting compound needs proper drying time on a muggy day, so we don't rush the finish. We're carpenters first, so we straighten the frame before a sheet goes on and add timber blocking wherever you'll hang a TV or shelves. If the new wall needs power, a licensed electrician wires it before we close it up.
What we do
Plasterboard work on the Gold Coast
Home office and study walls
Stud walls that close off part of an open-plan area or a large rumpus room, with sound batts and a door, so you get a quiet room to work from without a full renovation.
Splitting a bedroom in two
A dividing wall through a large bedroom to create two smaller ones, framed straight, sheeted on both sides and finished with a door, cornice and skirting to match the rest of the house.
Re-sheeting after storm water
Walls that soaked up water during a storm, cut back once the leak has been fixed and the frame has dried, then re-sheeted in new gyprock and set to match the surrounding walls.
Renovation re-lining
New plasterboard for rooms stripped back during a renovation in older brick homes around Robina and Helensvale, with joins set and corners finished so new and old walls meet cleanly.
Garage lining
Lining bare garage walls and ceilings in newer homes so the space is cleaner and easier to use as a workshop or storage area. If you're turning it into a room to live in, we'll tell you if it may need approval.
Blocking and TV walls
Timber noggins fixed into the frame before sheeting, so wall-mounted TVs, floating shelves, robes and cabinets fix into solid timber rather than relying on plasterboard anchors.
Local conditions
Gyprock and the Gold Coast climate
Humidity and the right board
Garages, laundries and rooms with poor airflow stay damp for much of the Gold Coast summer. Moisture-resistant plasterboard copes far better in those spaces than standard board. Wet areas like showers still need waterproofing by a waterproofer, which is a separate trade.
Slow drying on muggy days
Setting compound dries more slowly in humid weather, and each coat needs to be dry before the next goes on. That's why a new wall is often finished over more than one visit. Rushing it causes shrinkage and cracks along the joins later.
Older linings may contain asbestos
Some older Gold Coast homes, particularly older beach houses, have fibro sheeting on walls, eaves or wet areas. Fibro from before 1990 may contain asbestos. If there's any chance it's there, have it tested before we cut, drill or remove anything.

FAQ
Plasterboard installation questions
Can you build a study wall in my new Coomera home?
Usually, yes. We frame a new wall, fill it with sound batts, sheet both sides in gyprock and hang a door so the room is finished in one job. If you want power points or data in the new wall, a licensed electrician fits them before the sheets go on, and we can coordinate that.
Should I use moisture-resistant gyprock in my garage or laundry?
On the Gold Coast, it's usually worth it. Garages and laundries stay humid for months in summer, and standard board can soften and grow mould where moisture sits. Moisture-resistant board costs a little more and holds up much better in those rooms.
Can you re-sheet a room that got wet in a storm?
Yes, once the cause is fixed. A roofer, plumber or window specialist needs to stop the water getting in first. Then the frame needs to dry out properly before new gyprock goes on, or mould can grow behind it. We'll check the frame and tell you how much needs replacing.
Do you install plasterboard in Gold Coast apartments?
We can, for jobs inside your unit such as a new partition wall or re-sheeting after a leak. Check with your body corporate before any building work, as many buildings have rules on noise and working hours. Tell us about lift access and parking so we can plan getting the sheets in.
