Timber fencing on the Gold Coast

Fences flattened in a summer storm, estate fences rotting at the posts, and new blocks that still need a side gate. We build and repair timber fences and gates across the Gold Coast.

Timber fences on the coast

Timber fences on the Gold Coast face a particular mix of problems. Summer storms bring strong winds that push over sections with weak posts. Termites are active right across the coast and go straight for timber in the ground. In some coastal suburbs, sandier soil gives posts less to grip, so they need to go deeper and be set firmly in concrete. And near the canals and the beach, salt air rusts ordinary nails, hinges and latches long before the timber gives up.

The fences we're asked about change with the suburb. In Robina and Helensvale, many paling fences went up when the estates were first built and are now leaning, patched and soft at the base. In the newer northern estates around Coomera, Upper Coomera and Pimpama, it's often a side gate the builder never fitted, or a new section to keep the dog in. In canal suburbs like Paradise Point, Runaway Bay and Hope Island, it's timber gates and fences that need stainless hinges and latches to cope with the salt.

We build in timber only: paling fences, capped fences and timber gates on hardwood or treated posts. For colorbond or glass pool fencing, a specialist fencer is the right call. We're based in Hope Island, so it's easy to come and look at a fence line on the northern Gold Coast, and we plan fence jobs further south ahead because they usually run over a couple of days.

What we do

Fencing work on the Gold Coast

  • Storm-damaged sections

Sections pushed over or snapped in a summer storm or by a falling branch. We check which posts are still sound, replace the ones that failed and rebuild the section to match the rest of the fence.

  • Rebuilding old estate fences

Original paling fences in established suburbs like Robina and Helensvale that have reached the end of their life, rebuilt in treated pine or hardwood palings on new posts set deep in concrete.

  • Side gates for new homes

Timber side gates for newer homes in Coomera, Pimpama and Upper Coomera, braced so they don't sag, hung on solid hinges and fitted with a latch that lines up properly.

  • Coastal gates and hardware

Timber gates on canal and beachside homes fitted with stainless hinges, latches and fixings, and old rusted hardware replaced before it seizes or snaps.

  • Post replacement

Posts rotted or termite-damaged at ground level dug out and replaced, keeping the rails and palings that are still good, so you don't pay for a whole new fence before you need one.

  • Capped and plinth fences

Paling fences with a capping rail along the top and a plinth board at the base, which protects the palings from sun, rain and wet soil and gives the fence a finished look from the street.

Local conditions

What Gold Coast fences are up against

  • Storm winds

A solid paling fence catches the wind like a sail. When a storm comes through, it's the weakest posts that let go first and take the section with them. Posts set deep enough in concrete, and spaced to suit the fence height, are what keep a fence standing.

  • Termites and wet ground

Fence posts sit in damp soil, which is where termites and rot do their damage. Durable hardwood or treated posts rated for in-ground use last longest. If we find live termites in a post, a licensed pest controller needs to treat the area before we replace it.

  • Estate rules and neighbours

Many Gold Coast estates have guidelines on fence style, height or colour, especially for street-facing fences in gated communities. Check those first. For a shared boundary fence, agree the plan and the cost with your neighbour before we start, and we're happy to explain the job to both of you.

FAQ

Fencing & gates questions

My fence blew over in a storm. Do I need a whole new fence?

Not always. If most of the posts are still solid, we can usually rebuild just the damaged section. If the posts along the rest of the line are soft too, patching won't last and a full replacement is better value. Some home insurance policies cover storm damage to fences, so check yours and we can give you a written quote.

Is treated pine or hardwood better for a Gold Coast fence?

Both work. Treated pine palings are a common, cost-effective choice, and hardwood palings are tougher and last longer, especially in full sun. For posts, we use hardwood or treated posts rated for in-ground use. The fixings matter too: near the water, use galvanised or stainless nails and hinges.

Do you build colorbond fences?

No, we work in timber only. If you'd like colorbond along the boundary, a specialist fencing company is the right choice. We can still build or repair timber side gates, screens and timber sections around the property.

Can you build a fence or gate that's part of a pool barrier?

Tell us up front if any part of the fence or gate forms part of a pool barrier. Pool barriers have their own safety requirements, so we'll talk it through with you and point you to council or a pool safety inspector to check what applies before we build.
