Turning a new build into your home
Much of Coomera is newer housing: estates built over the last couple of decades on both sides of the M1, canal homes around Coomera Waters, and townhouses close to the train station and the shopping centre. These homes are generally sound, but builders often fit the most basic doors, handles, robes and screens to keep the price down. That's where a lot of the work in a newer home starts.
A typical list from a Coomera home a year or two after handover might include more storage in the robes, a fence and side gate that actually keep the dog in, screens tough enough for kids and pets, and a few doors that have started to bind. We can handle a list like that in one visit or a few planned ones, so you're not chasing several trades for small jobs.
We're based in Hope Island, a short drive away, and work right across the northern Gold Coast. The work is done by Isaac, a QBCC licensed carpenter with more than 26 years' experience. If something in a home that's still new looks like it could be a building defect, we'll say so, so you can check with your builder before paying for a fix yourself.
What we see here
Coomera homes and what they need
Builder-basic doors and handles
Hollow-core internal doors and light-duty handles are standard in many new homes. They dent easily and handles work loose with daily use. We repair holes, swap tired hardware for something sturdier, or fit solid-core doors where you want less noise between rooms.
Fences and side gates
New blocks often come with a basic boundary fence and no side gate at all. We build timber paling fences and gates, fit solid hinges and latches, and set the posts properly so the gate doesn't drop and drag after its first wet season.
Shelves on plasterboard
Floating shelves, heavy mirrors and wall storage need either a stud behind them or fixings rated for the load. We locate the framing, choose fixings that suit the weight and fix things so they stay put, instead of trusting a few plastic plugs.
Screens for kids and pets
Standard fly screens tear quickly when a dog or a toddler pushes through them. We re-mesh with tougher pet mesh, fix sagging screen doors and fit new flyscreen doors to sliders, so you can leave the house open on warm evenings.

FAQ
Questions from Coomera
Can you add storage to the robes in my new Coomera home?
Yes. Many new robes come with one shelf and one hanging rail. We can add shelving, double hanging and drawers, or do a full built-in fit-out, and we can replace flimsy sliding robe doors that keep jumping off their track. Send photos and rough measurements and we'll suggest a layout.
My new home's doors have started sticking. Is that normal?
It's common in the first couple of years, as a new house settles and its timber takes on Queensland humidity. Usually the fix is tightening hinges or moving a strike plate, not planing the door. If lots of doors stick at once, or cracks keep widening, we'll suggest you raise it with your builder.
Can you build a side gate on a new Coomera block?
Yes. We build timber gates to suit the gap, with posts set in concrete and hinges and latches sized for the gate's weight. If your estate has guidelines on fence height or style, check them first and we'll build to suit. A photo of the side path with a rough width helps us quote.
