Built-in wardrobes on the Gold Coast

Builder robes with one shelf and one rail, tired mirrored sliders in older brick homes, and apartment robes that never fit enough. We build and refit wardrobes and shelving across the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast

Storage that copes with the coast

Wardrobe jobs on the Gold Coast tend to fall into three groups. In newer homes around Coomera, Upper Coomera, Pimpama and Helensvale, the robes usually came with a single shelf and a hanging rail, so we strip them out and fit a layout that holds far more. In the 1980s and 1990s brick homes of Robina and Helensvale, it's mirrored sliding doors on worn tracks and fit-outs that have sagged over the years. In larger Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove homes, it's walk-in robes, linen cupboards and butler's pantries planned around how the household actually lives.

Humidity is the part people don't plan for. Wardrobes on an outside wall, or in rooms that are closed up while the air-con runs elsewhere, can stay damp for weeks in summer, and that's when mould shows up on shoes, bags and the back panel. We think about airflow when we design a robe: leaving a small gap behind the carcass on external walls, using ventilated shelving where it suits, and choosing board and finishes that stand up to moisture.

Apartments bring their own challenge. In Surfers Paradise, Southport and Runaway Bay, materials have to come up in the lift, so we use components that can be carried in and assembled in the room, then scribed to the walls. We're based in Hope Island, so measuring up on the northern Gold Coast is easy, and we plan installs further south ahead. New wardrobes come with our 3-month workmanship warranty.

What we do

Wardrobe and shelving work on the Gold Coast

  • New-home robe refits

Single shelf and rail removed from robes in newer northern estate homes and replaced with double hanging, adjustable shelves, drawers and shoe storage, fitted inside the existing doors.

  • Replacing old mirrored robes

Worn mirrored sliders and saggy fit-outs in older Robina and Helensvale homes replaced with new doors, tracks and an updated interior, or just the inside redone if the doors are still sound.

  • Walk-in robes

Walk-in robe fit-outs for larger homes, with long and short hanging, open shelving, drawer units and space for luggage, planned around who uses which side.

  • Apartment wardrobes

Built-in robes for Surfers Paradise, Southport and Runaway Bay apartments, assembled from parts that fit through the lift and the front door, and scribed to the walls once they're in.

  • Linen and pantry shelving

Linen cupboards spaced for towels and bedding, and pantry shelves strong enough for tins and appliances, in finishes that wipe clean and stand up to humid kitchens and laundries.

  • Holiday let storage

Tough, simple robes and shelving for Gold Coast holiday rentals, with sturdy hinges and runners that stand up to guests who don't treat them gently.

Local conditions

What Gold Coast wardrobes need

  • Airflow against mould

A robe built tight against a cool external wall can trap damp air in a humid summer. Leaving a small air gap behind the carcass, keeping the bottom off a damp floor and opening the doors now and then all help stop mould on clothes and shoes.

  • Board that handles moisture

Cheap particleboard swells at the edges when it picks up moisture, and shelves start to sag. In robes, linen cupboards and pantries on the coast, we choose moisture-resistant board, seal cut edges and support longer shelves so they stay flat.

  • Getting it into the room

Apartment lifts, narrow stairs and tight hallways limit how big a panel can be. We plan the wardrobe in sections that can be carried in, then join and scribe it on site, so the finished robe still looks like one built-in piece.

FAQ

Wardrobes & shelving questions

How do I stop mould in my wardrobe on the Gold Coast?

Give the robe some airflow. Open the doors regularly, don't pack it so tightly that air can't move, and keep the room ventilated or air-conditioned through humid spells. When we build a new robe on an outside wall, we leave a small gap behind it and use board suited to damp conditions.

Can you refit the robes in my new Pimpama or Coomera home?

Yes. If the builder's doors and the robe frame are in good shape, we keep them and replace only the inside. Tell us what you need to store, such as long dresses, folded clothes or shoes, and we'll design a layout around it.

Can you build a wardrobe in a high-rise apartment?

Yes. We design it in sections that fit through the lift and the apartment door, then assemble and fit it in the room. Let us know about lift bookings, parking and your building's working hours when you get in touch, so we can plan the install.

Should I keep my old mirrored sliding robe doors?

If the mirrors are in good condition and only the wheels or track are worn, a repair is often good value. If the doors are damaged, dated or keep coming off, new doors and an updated interior usually make more sense. We'll look at them and give you both options.
