Custom doors on the Gold Coast

Wide pivot entries for modern rebuilds, timber doors with sidelights for resort-style homes, and doors to suit a renovated beach cottage. We design, order and hang custom doors across the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast

A statement door that suits salt and sun

On the Gold Coast, a custom door is usually about the entry. Large homes in Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove, new rebuilds along the canals in Paradise Point and Runaway Bay, and renovated houses around Burleigh Heads often have entries a stock door won't suit: extra height, a wide opening, glass sidelights or a covered entry made for a pivot door. A door made to the opening fills it properly and gives the house the front it was designed for.

The coast adds one more question to the design: how will this door age here? Salt air, humidity and strong sun all work on timber and hardware. A door under a deep entry roof can be oiled to show off the grain. A door that takes the weather from the water may be better painted, or made from a timber and finish chosen to cope. Pivots, hinges, handles and locks need to suit coastal conditions too, because corroded hardware is often the first thing to fail on an expensive door.

We're based in Hope Island, so we can come and look at the entry, measure it and talk through the options in person. We then have the door made to those sizes, prepare the frame and floor while it's being built, and hang it ourselves. In gated estates, the door may need sign-off from the community before it's ordered, and we'll give you drawings and specifications to send in with your request.

What we do

Custom door work on the Gold Coast

  • Pivot doors for wide entries

Oversized pivot doors for modern homes with a covered entry. We check the floor, the head and how much shelter the door has, and set the pivot so a heavy door swings evenly and closes against its seals.

  • Entries with sidelights

Timber doors with glass sidelights or a highlight window above, made to fill a wide opening and bring light into the hallway, with frosted or reeded glass where you want privacy from the street.

  • Doors for resort-style homes

Tall solid timber entries for Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove homes, matched to the stone, timber and render around them, with hardware chosen to suit the weight of the door.

  • Beach cottage renovations

Doors made for older Burleigh Heads and Paradise Point homes being renovated, from a panelled door that suits the original style to a new timber door in a freshly framed opening.

  • Replacing a failed entry door

Original front doors that have swollen, split or gone soft at the base after years of weather. We measure the opening, design a replacement that suits it and fix any frame damage before the new door goes in.

  • Hanging a door made elsewhere

If you've already ordered a custom door from a maker, we can check the opening against their drawings before it's built, then hang it, fit the hardware and finish the edges.

Local conditions

Planning a custom door for the coast

  • Shelter decides the finish

How much cover sits above your door matters more than almost anything else. A deep entry roof lets you use an oiled finish that shows the grain. An exposed door facing the water or the western sun will need more upkeep, so we'll talk through which finish suits the spot.

  • Hardware near the water

Pivots, hinges, pull handles and locks on a coastal front door need to resist corrosion, or they'll stiffen and stain long before the door wears out. We choose stainless or other coastal-grade hardware where the door is exposed to salt air.

  • Community approval

In gated communities like Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove, a new front door may need the estate's approval before it's ordered. Ask your body corporate or community manager what they need. We can supply the sizes, timber species, finish and hardware details.

FAQ

Custom doors questions

Will a timber pivot door last near the beach?

It can, if it has good shelter above it and the right finish and hardware. Pivot doors don't seal as tightly as hinged doors, so on an exposed entry that takes driving rain they can let water in. We'll look at your entry and tell you honestly whether a pivot suits it or a hinged door is the safer choice.

Should a coastal front door be oiled or painted?

Under a deep roof, an oiled finish looks beautiful and is easy to refresh. On a door that faces the weather and full sun, oil dries out quickly, so a painted finish or a more durable coating usually needs less attention. We'll explain the upkeep of each before you choose.

Can you design a door to get past our estate's guidelines?

We can design within the guidelines you give us. Ask your body corporate or community manager what's allowed for front doors, such as colours, glass and styles, then we'll work out a design that suits both the house and the rules and give you the details to submit.

Do you make custom doors for homes on the southern Gold Coast?

Yes. We design and hang custom doors from Hope Island down to Robina and Burleigh Heads. We'll need a site visit to measure the opening and look at the entry, which we plan ahead for the southern suburbs, then a second visit to install.
