Flat walls start with a straight frame
Plasterboard shows every problem in the frame behind it. A bowed stud becomes a wave in the wall, and a frame out of plumb gives you a door that won't sit right. Because we're carpenters first, we build or straighten the frame before a sheet goes up, with noggins wherever the wall will carry shelves, a TV or cabinets.
We lay out the sheets to keep joins to a minimum and away from where light falls across the wall, then fix, tape and set every join and corner. The board matters too: standard for most rooms, moisture-resistant for laundries, acoustic where you want quiet. In bathrooms, waterproofing is a separate job for a waterproofer.
Typical jobs include splitting a big bedroom into two, closing in a study nook, lining a garage and re-sheeting rooms in a renovation. If a new wall needs power points, a licensed electrician runs the wiring before the sheets go on, and we can coordinate that. We'll also tell you if a wall is load-bearing and needs an engineer. We work across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, from Helensvale and Coomera to Wynnum and Indooroopilly.
What we do
Plasterboard work we do
New stud walls
Timber-framed partition walls to divide a room or create a study, framed straight and sheeted on both sides.
Renovation sheeting
Re-lining rooms after old walls have been stripped back, with every join set and sanded ready for paint.
New ceilings
Fresh plasterboard ceilings for renovated rooms, fixed to the battens or joists and finished with new cornice.
Garage and shed lining
Lining the walls and ceiling of a garage, workshop or shed so it's cleaner, brighter and easier to use.
Insulation in walls
Sound or thermal batts fitted inside new walls before they're sheeted, for a quieter bedroom or home office.
Wall blocking
Extra timber noggins in the frame wherever you plan to hang a TV, shelves, wall cabinets or grab rails.
Plasterboard is the answer when…
- You want an extra bedroom or study without building on
- An open-plan space is noisy and needs a dividing wall
- Old walls have been stripped back during a renovation
- The sheeting is damaged across a whole wall, not just in one spot
- Your garage or shed walls are bare frame and you want them lined
- You need solid blocking in a wall for a heavy TV or cabinets
What affects the price
- The size of the wall or room, and its ceiling height
- Whether we build a new frame or straighten an existing one
- The type of board: standard, moisture-resistant or acoustic
- Insulation, blocking and any doorway or opening in the wall
- The level of finish, and whether we paint it afterwards
Send a photo or rough sketch of the space with measurements, and tell us what the wall needs to do. We'll come back with a clear fixed quote.
FAQ
Plasterboard installation questions
What's the difference between plasterboard and gyprock?
Nothing, really. Gyprock is a brand name that most Australians use for any plasterboard. You'll hear us use both words for the same thing.
Can you put a doorway in the new wall?
Yes. We frame the opening, hang the door and fit the architraves, so the new room is finished as one job. That includes a cavity sliding door if space is tight.
Will a new stud wall block sound between rooms?
A plain wall cuts some noise, but sound batts in the cavity make a real difference, and acoustic board helps further. Sound also travels under doors and through the ceiling, so we'll talk through what will help most in your room.
Can you put power points in the new wall?
We don't do electrical work ourselves. A licensed electrician runs the cables and fits the outlets, and we can coordinate one so the wiring goes in after the frame is up and before the sheets go on.
Can you take a wall out as well?
We can remove non-load-bearing walls and patch the walls and ceiling around them. Any pipes or wiring inside need a plumber or electrician to make them safe first. If the wall might be holding up the roof or the floor above, it needs an engineer's advice, and we'll tell you if that's the case.
