Timber fences on Brisbane blocks
Brisbane's fence lines tell you a lot about each suburb. Older streets in Holland Park, Coorparoo and Camp Hill often have timber paling fences that have been patched for years, sometimes with posts that are the oldest timber on the block. Brick family homes around Sunnybank Hills and Rochedale South tend to have long back and side boundaries. Hilly suburbs like Mount Gravatt, Shailer Park and Daisy Hill need fences that step down the slope. And in Logan's newer estates, the first timber job is often a side gate, or a section of fence a storm has knocked over.
We work in timber only: paling fences, capping and plinths, and timber gates. If you're after colorbond or masonry, a fencing company that specialises in it is the better call. On a sloping block we either step the fence in level sections or rake it to follow the ground, and set every post deep and plumb, because Brisbane's clay and summer storms find any post that's shallow or leaning. If there's live termite activity in the old posts, we'll ask you to have a pest controller treat it before the new posts go in.
A new fence or a long repair takes more than one visit, because posts are concreted and need time to set before the rails and palings go on. That suits our Brisbane schedule. We're based in Hope Island, about 30 minutes from Loganholme and Beenleigh and closer to an hour from the eastern suburbs, and we plan fence work on set days. Send a photo of the fence line, a rough length in metres and your suburb. If it's a shared fence, it helps to have talked to your neighbour first.
What we do
Fencing work we do in Brisbane
Paling fences on sloping blocks
New timber fences that step down or follow the ground on hilly blocks in Mount Gravatt, Shailer Park and Daisy Hill, with every post set plumb and the bottom rail kept clear of the soil as the ground falls away.
Storm-damaged sections
Sections pushed over by wind or a fallen branch rebuilt with new posts and rails, reusing sound palings where we can. We can give you a written quote to pass on to your insurer.
Failed posts in older fences
Old fences in established suburbs often have posts that rotted at ground level years ago and are only held up by the rails. We replace the failed posts and re-fix the rails, and tell you plainly when there are too many to save.
Side gates for estate homes
Timber side gates for Logan and Rochedale estate homes, built with a proper brace, hung off a solid post with a latch set at the right height, so the bins come out without the gate dragging on the path.
Long back boundaries
Full rebuilds of long back and side boundary fences behind brick family homes, with a written quote you can share with your neighbour so the conversation about cost is easier.
Capping and plinths
Capping rails to shed water off the top of the palings, and plinth boards to keep the palings off damp soil and garden beds, which helps a fence last through Brisbane's wet summers.
Local conditions
What Brisbane fences are up against
Reactive clay and wet summers
Brisbane's clay soils swell when wet and shrink when dry, and fence posts get pushed and loosened with them. Posts concreted deep, with the concrete shaped to shed water away from the timber, cope with that far better than shallow ones.
Storm winds
A solid paling fence acts like a sail in a summer storm, and a leaning section usually fails at its oldest posts first. Keeping posts sound and rails well fixed is the best way to stop one storm turning a tired fence into a fallen one.
Termites in older yards
Termites are common around older Brisbane and Logan homes, and in-ground fence posts are an easy food source. Posts go in as durable hardwood or in-ground treated pine, and if we find live activity, we stop and tell you so a pest controller can treat it.

FAQ
Fencing & gates questions
Can you build a fence on a steep block?
Yes. On a steep block we usually step the fence in level panels, which looks neater and stays stronger. On a gentler slope the fence can follow the ground. Either way, we'll show you how it will look, including the gaps under the bottom rail, before we start.
Do you build colorbond fences?
No. We build and repair timber fences and timber gates. For colorbond or masonry fencing, a company that specialises in it is the better choice, and we're happy to say so rather than take on work outside our trade.
My fence came down in a storm. How soon can you fix it?
We can't promise a same-day repair in Brisbane, because we book work on set days from our Hope Island base. If the fence keeps a dog in or is part of a pool barrier, tell us when you get in touch and arrange something temporary in the meantime. We'll give you the soonest date we can, and a written quote for your insurer.
Can you repair just my side of a shared fence?
A paling fence has the palings on one side and the rails on the other, so any repair affects both neighbours. It's best to talk to your neighbour first and agree on the work. We can quote the job in writing so you both know what's involved.
