Brick family homes and busy households

Brisbane's southern suburbs are full of solid brick homes built from the 1970s onwards. In Sunnybank, Eight Mile Plains and Upper Mount Gravatt you'll find plenty of lowset brick houses on decent-sized blocks, many now sitting beside newer two-storey homes built where an older house came down. Further east, Rochedale has newer estates with modern family homes and townhouses. These houses need different work from an old Queenslander, and that's most of what we do on the south side.

In the older brick homes, it's usually the fit-out that has worn out: hollow-core internal doors with tired hinges and dented faces, sliding robe doors jumping off their tracks, cracked cornices and walls patched from decades of picture hooks and moved furniture. Timber fences along the back boundary are often near the end of their life too. In newer homes, it's more often settling cracks, doors that need adjusting once the house has moved a little, and extra shelving that wasn't in the original build.

Haziza House Services is based in Hope Island on the northern Gold Coast, so the south side is a longer run for us. We group Brisbane jobs on set days, which means a visit works best when we can tackle a few things at your place at once. If you're looking for a carpenter or handyman near Sunnybank or Eight Mile Plains, send us photos of the job and your suburb, and we'll tell you honestly when we can get there.

What we see here

South side homes and what they need

  • Sliding robe doors

Many 70s and 80s homes still have their original mirror or panel sliding robe doors. Worn rollers and bent bottom tracks make them drag or jump off. We replace rollers and tracks where parts are still available, or fit new doors to the existing opening.

  • Hollow-core internal doors

Original hollow-core doors get dented, punched and loose on their hinges after years of family life. We patch the ones worth patching, and hang new doors in the existing frames, trimmed, sealed and fitted with new hardware so they close quietly.

  • Back boundary fences

Long timber paling fences along back and side boundaries take a beating from storms, sprinklers and garden beds piled against them. We replace leaning posts, rotten rails and broken palings, or rebuild the whole run, and we can give you a written quote to share with your neighbour.

  • Newer homes in Rochedale

In newer estates the first jobs tend to be small ones: doors that need adjusting after the house settles, fine cracks at plaster joints and cornices, and extra shelving in robes and pantries. We fix the cause properly rather than just filling and painting over it.

FAQ

Questions from Brisbane South

Do you come to Sunnybank and Eight Mile Plains?

Yes. We work across Brisbane's southern suburbs, including Sunnybank, Sunnybank Hills, Eight Mile Plains, Rochedale and Upper Mount Gravatt. Because we're based on the northern Gold Coast, we group these jobs on set days. Send us photos and your suburb, and we'll tell you when we're next working up your way.

Should I fix my old sliding robe doors or replace them?

It depends on the doors and the tracks. If the panels are straight and the top track is sound, new rollers and a new bottom track often get them gliding again for a lot less than new doors. If the panels are warped or a mirror is damaged, new doors usually make more sense. We'll tell you which once we've seen them.

Can you do several small jobs in one visit?

Yes, and on the south side that's the best use of a visit. Make a list: the door that won't latch, the hole behind the bedroom door, the loose gate, the robe that drags. Send photos of each and we'll quote them together, so one trip covers the lot instead of several call-outs.
